What do mountain bikers and business owners have in common?

For the people who have known Day2Day Books for a while know that one of our favorite activities is mountain biking. Not just the owner / operator Marloes but also the rest of the team are active bikers.

When looking for a way to describe a mountain biker the following characteristics come to mind:

  • Adventure-seeking
  • Physical fitness
  • Skill development
  • Love for nature
  • Camaraderie
  • Determination and resilience
  • Equipment and gear enthusiasm
  • Risk Management
  • Environmental responsibility
  • Continuous learning

It’s amazing how much of this list overlaps with our company value: Passion / Honesty / Team and Balance. Different words but they can be exchanged with Determination, Continued learning (by being honest that you don’t have certain skills), Camaraderie (teamwork) and Risk management (balancing work /life but also efficient & effective ways to work).

Many of these also apply to entrepreneurs. Risk Management / Continuous learning and skill development, they are all commonly used when describing business owners. Why pointing this out? Because it means at Day2Day Books we understand. We know what it’s like. We know mountain biking and being in business is FUN, but it isn’t for everyone and it doesn’t come easy. You have to work for it, sometimes you crash and have to dust off the dirt. And try again!

There are numerous reasons why we love biking in Golden:

  1. There are nice flowy trails at the Moonrakers
  2. There are technical / rocky trails at Mtn Shadows
  3. There are places you can shuttle up with your car and have a blast going down at Mtn Seven
  4. There are many great up-trails to earn your way down CBT or French Connection
  5. Or improve your skills at the Kicking Horse Bike Park

You can’t ask us to pick one style or one favorite trail. They all have different aspects that depending on the day (weather / time / energy levels) are enjoyable!

Below are two examples of different ways to ride bikes:

First is riding on paved dedicated bike trails in the Netherlands > No helmet required and on flip flops:

Second is riding a rock slab in Squamish > Different protective gear, different bike etc etc.

Similar to doing business in Golden and other small towns. We service many different industries, work with different systems and technology. Why? Because we know how to adapt, how to be flexible and how to learn new skills quickly.

At Day2Day Books we are proud to call ourselves Certified Professional Bookkeepers. Like with mountain biking you have to have a base level of skills and knowledge. When jumping on a new trail on our bikes, we check if we have the right equipment and technique to do it. The more trails you have ridden the quicker you can apply your skills. Because we have been in this industry for so long we know how to apply bookkeeping principles and different technologies that serve your business best.

As mentioned before, teamwork is important to us. In order to be successful in our biking adventures, we love using Selkirk Sports and Higher Ground to keep our gear well maintained and up to date. We love being members of the Golden Cycling Club and being a corporate sponsor. And last but not least, if we need a confident booster or if we feel like we are ready for the next skill level, we love joining the courses offered by Shred Sisters!

Keep up to date with all of our biking and bookkeeping on our Instagram.
