Celebrating 10 Years of Day2Day Books: 10 Things to Know About Us

This year marks a significant milestone for Day2Day Books as we celebrate our 10th anniversary! Over the past decade, we’ve dedicated ourselves to providing exceptional bookkeeping services to a wide range of clients, ensuring their financial records are accurate, up-to-date, and compliant. To commemorate this special occasion, Marloes, our CEO, wants to share ten fascinating facts about Day2Day Books. So, let’s dive into the story behind our name, our journey, and our impact on clients.

  1. How Did We Come Up with the Name Day2Day Books?

The name “Day2Day Books” was born in the most unexpected way. It was in the middle of the night when I woke up with a strong feeling that this was the perfect name. Without hesitation, I texted a friend who specializes in web design and asked her to claim the domain name immediately. She called me the next day, concerned it might have been a spam text, but nope, it was just me, Marloes, making dreams come true!

  1. Did We Achieve Our Goals?

Yes and no. On the one hand, the lifestyle and flexibility I’ve achieved are fantastic. I’m at a point where I can step away from the business, knowing my team can manage things smoothly. On the other hand, I had hoped to have a larger client base and staff by now. But I believe in the saying “slow is fast,” and there are still plenty of opportunities ahead!

  1. Do I Still Enjoy Bookkeeping?

Absolutely, YES! I believe everyone has a gift or skill meant to serve themselves and others. When you find and use the right gift, you experience joy, success, and happiness. For me, that gift is bookkeeping. It might not sound exciting or “sexy” to some, but I genuinely love what I do!

  1. The Biggest Lesson Learned

One of the most profound lessons I’ve learned is encapsulated in this saying: “When the student is ready, the teacher shows up.” Over the past ten years, I’ve realized that I wasn’t always ready to learn certain lessons, even if they were obvious to others. I apply this understanding to my employees and clients, recognizing that people learn best when they are ready. My favorite clients are those who have realized the value of outsourcing their bookkeeping!

  1. Inspiration Behind Starting Day2Day Books

My inspiration came from my dad. Growing up, he ran a construction company with over 200 employees. I admired his hard work and dedication but also noticed his absence due to his busy schedule. He inspired me to create a business that balances work and personal life. Fun fact: I recently learned that my dad’s best subject in school was accounting!

  1. Least Favorite Part of the Job

Taxes! To be specific, I’m not a fan of preparing personal or corporate taxes. While corporate taxes aren’t too bad, personal taxes are not my cup of tea. However, I do enjoy working with GST/PST and payroll taxes. Each to their own, right?

  1. Do I Do My Own Bookkeeping?

Yes, I do… in time. Sometimes I only do the bare minimum, but I always use the tools I recommend to my clients. I enjoy reviewing my numbers once everything is recorded, and I understand the benefits of staying on top of things to make timely decisions.

  1. Are We 100% Paperless?

For my own books, yes! I utilize tools like QuickBooks Online, Harvest, Hubdoc, and Telpay. However, when working on client accounts, I occasionally print reports to review with pen and paper before summarizing my notes digitally. There’s something satisfying about the tactile process of reviewing hard copies.

  1. Favorite Part of the Job

Working with people, hands down! Whether it’s interacting with clients or collaborating with my team, I love getting to know people and their businesses. Helping clients solve their pain points and watching my team grow in their roles is incredibly rewarding. I enjoy showing them the profession and coaching them through new situations.

  1. The Biggest Impact on Our Clients

One of the most significant impacts we’ve had is providing our clients with peace of mind. Knowing their books are in order, payroll is correct, and taxes are filed on time is invaluable. We’ve successfully navigated multiple audits for different clients and transitioned many from desktop-based to cloud-based accounting. It’s gratifying to hear clients express relief and satisfaction with our services, enabling them to focus on growing their businesses.

As we celebrate a decade of Day2Day Books, I am filled with gratitude for the journey and the people who have been part of it. From a late-night epiphany to becoming a trusted partner for our clients, these ten years have been marked by growth, learning, and meaningful connections. Make sure to continue to follow along with our journey on social media!

Here’s to many more years of helping businesses thrive through excellent bookkeeping services! Cheers to the future!
