In July Laura took a mountaineering course. Mountaineering, especially the really big mountains like Everest, K2 and Lhoste have always fascinated her. She loves watching documentaries and reading all the biographies on climbers. This summer she had the opportunity to take a week-long Introduction to Mountaineering course at the Wapta Icefield. The group stayed at the Bow Hut and learned basic glacier travel and safety techniques using rope, ice axe, harness and crampons. This definitely started a life-long dream of mountaineering for Laura and her current goals is to summit as many of the fifty-four 11,ooo foot mountains in the Canadian Rockies, and who knows, maybe one day Everest!
